The California Emerging Clean Air Technology Forum July 9 at UC Merced: is a collaborative effort by the U.S. EPA, CA Air Resources Board, and the South Coast and San Joaquin Valley Air Districts to accelerate the development and implementation of advanced technology that could help achieve our shared air quality goals. These agencies are sponsoring a one-day public Forum at UC Merced on July 9, 2008 from 9:00am to 5:00pm on both mobile and stationary source technologies. The Technology Forum will focus on the following technology research areas: hydraulic and plug-in hybrids, electric vehicles, fuel-cells for vehicles and stationary sources, air emission monitoring and remote sensing, SCR for federal sources, micro-turbines distributive generation, architecture coatings and solvent certification, and agriculture pump efficiency. This event will also be broadcasted via webcast and is also free to attend. More information can be found here.

Are you ready for Healthy Air Living Week? Join people across the Valley in making a behavior change for clean air during Healthy Air Living week planned for July 7 through the 13th. Click here for information on Healthy Air Living and updates on how you can get involved.

The Valley Air District is rolling out the most sweeping initiative in its history, Healthy Air Living. This comprehensive, year-round, multi-faceted program involves every sector of the Valley’s population. A new commentary from the District's Executive Director addresses the exciting potential of this new initiative.

Permit-Exempt Equipment Registration (PEER). Applications to register permit-exempt boilers and agricultural engines are now available. The PEER program offers a streamlined alternative to permitting by which sources demonstrate compliance with rules that require emissions reductions from permit-exempt equipment. For further information and application deadlines, click this link: PEER Information.

The District has released the 2007 Annual Report on the District’s Indirect Source Review Program for the period March 1, 2006 to February 28, 2007.  Click here to view.

Environmental Justice Strategy
The District Governing Board adopted the Environmental Justice Strategy on August 16, 2007. This comprehensive policy will serve as a roadmap by which the District will be guided in integrating Environmental Justice principles and augmenting the steps already taken by the District in reaching out to the community. The policy is available in English and Spanish

As part of this strategy, the District is currently seeking candidates to fill open positions for the Tulare County seat and two ethnic small-business owners on the 13-member Environmental Justice Advisory Group (EJAG). The EJAG will work to collaboratively educate the public and community stakeholders about current District activities and air quality in general, and will review overarching District programs and strategies to provide feedback.

For additional information on the policy please contact Maricela Velasquez at (559) 230-5849 or Claudia Encinas at (559) 230-5851.

EPA proposes to approve the District's PM10 Maintenance Plan and Request for Redesignation. On April 25, 2008, the US Environmental Protection Agency proposed to approve the San Joaquin Valley’s PM10 Maintenance Plan and Request for Redesignation. This approval comes after the District submitted a letter and supporting documentation to the California Air Resources Board requesting that the air basin be reclassified as attainment for the federal health-based standard for airborne particulate matter of 10 microns and smaller. This historic achievement represents years of hard work by individuals, industry, Valley communities and the Air District.

The Ambient Air Monitoring Network Plan for 2008 provides the annual review of the ambient air monitoring network for the San Joaquin Valley pursuant to requirements of the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency and is posted for public review and comment until June 29, 2008.
